June Member of the Month

June AOM - Mel

Congratulations to our member of the month, Melissa Jamieson aka Meljams!!!

Mel has just recently hit her one year anniversary with us and has shown exceptional effort in all of her workouts since day one. She has impressed us by the amount of work and dedication she has been putting in to her physical fitness, not just at our gym, but also additional sessions at Metro Fitness as well. Mel has also made some great strides since coming back strong from a recent knee injury.

In getting to know Mel through the past year, we have come to truly appreciate her positive attitude each day, and ability to take on whatever we throw at her without even a grumble. We’re happy to see the improvements she continues to make and the excitement she has to get better each day. We look forward to seeing Mel’s continued progress and the impact she has on those around her.

Below are a few fun facts about Meljams that you might not know.

What are your favorite movements?

Burpee naps, but I also love dealifts! I used to have terrible form which caused a lot of back pain, but with the proper coaching and tweaking, I’ve been hitting some crazy numbers.

What is your least favorite movement?

Heavy cleans…I have some strange fear of getting under the bar.

How did you get into CrossFit and how long have you been training?

I got into CrossFit by accident. I’ve always been active in sports, but my old gym days consisted of running on the treadmill and Zumba classes. Approximately two years ago, I became bored of the same routinge, so I stepped up my game and linked up with coach Jerome at Club Metro who became CrossFit certified. I had a blast and loved it, and was intrigued by the Olympic lifts that he was restricted in teaching me due to his confined space. He encouraged me to make the changes I needed to try to crush new goals and I appreciated that. I planned on shopping around CrossFit boxes, but after hitting CrossFit Vae Victis, I new immediately that it was exactly the type of place I was looking for.

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?

The energy!! That answer sounds cheesy, but it’s true. I love smashing goals and I get just as excited when others do too! It’s a positive atmosphere and the excitement is contagious. I love pushing limits and doing what my mind tells me I can’t do. I also love the feeling of anxiousness watching the clock count down 3…2…1, just as much as the feeling I have when I complete one of Pat’s tough WODs.

What do you like most about CrossFit Vae Victis?

The people, both members and coaches….no question. My schedule is hectic, so I’ve had to switch up my gym time, but it doesn’t matter wheter I hit 6 am or 5:30 pm; I am always around great people who all come to work hard. I like the variety of coaches because they each add a different twist. The members have become my friends, and I look forward to seeing each of them daily. Everyone has different skill levels, but we all push each other to be our best. We hang out inside and outside of the box and have a great time together.

Favorite cheat food?

          Candy….gummy anything!

Tell us one interesting fact about you others may not know.

I have won an obscene amount of radio station contests. Prizes have ranged from trips to Mexico, laptops, and any concert you can think of. I once won an ice cream truck to come to my work and hand out ice cream to every employee in my office. That was totally random, but awesome!

Name one goal or personal record you want to achieve in the next year?

Just one? I guess kipping pull-ups and HSPUs, but I would like to get handstand walks as well. It’s probably better I take my time learning to walk on my hands though, because I can promise you once I get that, I am never going to walk on my feet again.

Once again, congratulations go out to Mel for impressing all of us with her amazing attitude and perseverance. That is what it means to be the  CrossFit Vae Victis Member of the Month. Check back next month for the next Member of the Month. We will once again be highlighting one of our great members that is killing it in the box.
